Bob is the eldest of three children of W. Lewis Rice and B.
Kathryn Rice. While Bob was born in Kansas City, Missouri,
the Rice family moved to Maryville
when he was just 2 years old and settled down in the community. He is a graduate of Maryville
R-II High
School and Northwest
Missouri State
University. Bob earned a Bachelor?s of Science Degree in
Political Science at Northwest. After
Northwest, Bob immediately started law school at Creighton University School of
Law in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bob earned his Juris Doctorate at Creighton in May 2003.
After
graduating from law school, Bob went to work as an Assistant Public Defender
for the Missouri State Public Defender System.
Bob worked in the trial office in Chillicothe,
Missouri. In 4 years, Bob handled almost 1,300 criminal
cases from 11 different counties in Northern Missouri. Of those cases, Bob handled almost 60 Class A
or Class B Felonies including, but not limited to, murder, drug manufacturing,
drug distribution, drug trafficking, Assault, Domestic Assault, Robbery,
Burglary, and sex crimes including adult and statutory. Bob has handled over
320 Class C or Class D Felonies including, but not limited to, drug possession,
drug paraphernalia, multiple Driving While Intoxicated offenders, multiple Driving
While Revoked offenders, child abuse, Endangering the Welfare of a Child,
Passing a Bad Check ? felony amount, Criminal Non-Support, forgery, receiving
stolen property, and involuntary manslaughter.
Bob was
promoted to the highest level of an Assistant Public Defender as appraised by
his Superiors. His job performance as a
trial attorney was appraised as Outstanding in that his ?performance far
exceeds expectation,? and ?represents a level of performance that is rare and
unusual.? Bob's emphasis on client
counseling and relations was recognized by his Superiors as excellent in that
it is both professional and empathetic.
Clients are kept well informed of their cases. Known as an aggressive negotiator, Bob
presses for the best possible result for the client.
As a trial
attorney, Bob was lead counsel in multiple felony and misdemeanor jury and
bench trials. His jury and bench trial
victories include both multiple felonies and misdemeanors against different
prosecuting attorneys. Cases are well prepared
and highly successful in cross examination and advocacy with an attention to
detail. Bob aggressively defends his
clients in the courtroom.
